An Overview of Hebrews
BETTER
1. We have a better man in heaven,
A better man by far,
Above the prophets and the angels,
The Bright and Morning Star.
2. He first was made a little lower
To suffer and to die,
So He can understand our troubles,
Though risen to the sky.
3. A servant in God’s house was Moses,
A very faithful one,
But Jesus our high priest is better,
And faithful as a son.
4. God’s people have a rest remaining,
For all who have believed,
It’s better than the land of Israel
That Joshua received.
5. Of higher priestly rank than Aaron,
Whose sins were in the way,
Made perfect, Christ became salvation
For all who will obey.
6. Rejection of this great salvation
Puts Christ to open shame,
But better things attend believers
Who trust in Jesus’ name.
7. He has a better priestly order
Than comes by carnal law,
A better hope, a better covenant,
And life without a flaw.
8. His priestly ministry is better,
A better deal He made,
On better promises established,
That never fail or fade.
9. A better sacrifice was needed
Than bulls and goats supply.
The death of Christ is all-sufficient,
His blood can purify.
10. The law’s a temporary shadow
Of things far more secure.
For better and eternal substance
We patiently endure.
11. Our fathers sought a better country,
As pilgrims on the earth.
They sought a better resurrection
Than what this world is worth.
12. Their good example let us follow,
And not fall short of grace.
Christ’s blood speaks better things than Abel’s,
And sets a King in place.
13. For we have here no lasting city,
But wait for future days,
So let’s do good and offer daily
The sacrifice of praise.
