Spiritual Armor

Ephesians 6:10-20

Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might,
And use the full armor of God for your fight.
God’s given the gear that is needed to stand
Against any schemes that the devil has planned.

Our war is not carnal, our weapons not guns.
The weapons we handle are spiritual ones.
We fight against forces who propagate lies,
The powers of darkness who rule in the skies.

Though Satan is stronger than all flesh and blood,
We stand without fear in the armor of God.
For safety in battle each piece is designed,
So put on the armor our Captain’s assigned.

When evil days come, and the demons surround,
If wearing our armor, we safeguard our ground,
And having done all that we’re given to do,
We’re able to stand and hold fast what is true.

The waistband of truth we secure in its place.
The teaching of Scripture we boldly embrace.
The lies of the world we reject in a glance.
We stand on the Word, and its truth we advance.

The breastplate of righteousness saves us from doubt.
Right living gives less to accuse us about,
And even when wrongdoing muddies our hands,
Our God’s imputation of holiness stands.

We keep pressing forward, though troubles increase,
Our feet wearing boots of the gospel of peace.
We carry a shield that extinguishes darts
That try to set fire to dissatisfied hearts.

That shield is our faith that God’s standards are good.
This confidence helps us to live like we should.
When tempted to think that it’s better to sin,
Our shield won’t allow for that lie to get in.

Salvation’s a helmet for guarding our minds,
To ward off despair from satanic designs.
Assured of the goodness of God to our souls,
Our thoughts aren’t affected by devilish moles.

God’s word is a sword that will slice and divide,
Exposing invasions of traitorous pride.
The Spirit is always controlling the sword.
That’s why we can trust it to work for the Lord.

We pray at all times for God’s help in our task,
Expecting to get from the Lord what we ask,
Remaining alert, persevering in prayer,
We make supplication for saints everywhere.

For preachers we also have reason to pray
That words would be given for what they should say,
With boldness the mystery of grace to proclaim,
So even in chains, we lift up Jesus name.
