The Signs in the Heavens

What do the signs in the heavens tell us about the Day of the Lord—and when do they actually occur?

In this study, Lee Brainard examines the biblical testimony concerning the sun being darkened, the moon not giving its light, the stars falling, and the powers of heaven being shaken. By comparing the relevant passages and applying straightforward biblical chronology, this study argues that these signs occur after the Great Tribulation and immediately before the Second Coming of Christ.

The study examines:

  • Matthew 24:29–30 — the signs appearing immediately after the Tribulation
  • Acts 2:20 — the signs occurring before the coming of the great and terrible Day of the Lord
  • Joel 2–3 — the signs in connection with the Day of the Lord and Armageddon
  • Isaiah 13 — the heavenly signs associated with the Day of the Lord
  • Isaiah 24 — the judgment of the host of heaven and the reign of the Lord
  • Revelation 6 — the sixth seal and the signs in the heavens
  • The relationship between the signs in the heavens, Armageddon, and the Second Coming
  • Why the technical arrival of the Day of the Lord is identified with the Second Coming

The central question is simple: When do the biblical signs in the heavens occur?

Rather than relying on speculative theories, this study seeks to harmonize the plain statements of Scripture and locate these events according to the biblical text itself.
