The Lion and the Lamb

The imagery of Christ rising from the dead as a lion is disappointing to me—not because there isn’t truth in it, but because it falls short of the Bible’s image of Christ returning to Mt. Zion as a lion. (Isaiah 31:4) The power and victory of Christ’s resurrection was displayed in the spiritual realm, but from the perspective of earth, Christ’s majesty was hidden. He showed Himself only to those who had already received Him as the Lamb of God. One day He is coming back as the Lion of Judah. (Revelation 5:5) Every eye will see him, and every knee will bow.

THE LION AND THE LAMB

He came as a lamb, He’ll come back as a lion.

The meekest of men, who was gentle when dying,

Arose from the dead and to heaven ascended.

He’s coming to earth when the age here has ended,

And those who refuse to obey and receive Him,

But cling to their sin and continually grieve Him,

Will find that He’s coming in fury and fire,

His judgement on sinners at last to require.

The Lamb who was slain is the only one able

To open the scroll and to tear off its label.

Then as a lion in majesty roaring,

The earth dwellers witness His judgment outpouring.

The righteous rejoice, but the sinners are crying.

The Lamb they’ve rejected returns as a lion.
