After disappointing clicks on titles such as, You’ve never seen it this way before, or You’ve been taught wrong about this or that, I have come to the conclusion that grandmas who have been reading the Bible and church history for decades are seldom the target audience for sensational headline writers. Well-read Bible students may, however, be in my target audience. When I started this poem with the assumption that many folks don’t believe in world-wide catastrophe, I didn’t necessarily mean you—and I hope you will read it.
Folks think the world will always be
The same as it has been
And don’t believe catastrophe
Could hit the earth again.
We see results most everywhere
Of catastrophic acts.
The evidence, for those who care,
Substantiates the facts.
The world has seen some violent days
When earth and heaven shook,
When judgment dropped in harsh displays
We shouldn’t overlook,
When asteroids fell and climates changed,
When mountains had their birth,
When towns collapsed, lands rearranged,
And chaos filled the earth.
It happened once in Noah’s day,
And then again in Lot’s.
Why cast potential wrath away
From sound and sober thoughts?
Don’t let your heart be blind or numb
To what we have in store.
The day of Christ is sure to come
And shake the earth once more.
