Bro Tibbs — Notes on Postmillennialism and Theonomy

EDITOR’S NOTE
This material was delivered by Bro Tibbs on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 in a livestream interview with Lee Brainard of Soothkeep, a ministry focused on defending and teaching truth in the last days. This is not a formal outline, but a rough outline. It will likely be polished and fleshed out more, given time and opportunity.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Things you should know about me:
— I’m 41 years old
— I’m married to the woman of my dreams, who also led me to the Lord. We’ve been together for 15 yrs, married for 13.
— I have 4 AMAZING and beautiful children who keep me on my toes 24/7 and will hopefully one day run laps around me in every aspect of life
— I’ve been a lot of things: an accomplished multi-sport athlete, a state champion mixed martial arts fighter, a successful bartender, an internet-marketing executive, a reverse engineer, and most recently and currently I am a cybersecurity analyst
— I’m bivocational, which also keeps me on my toes, but it also means there ain’t enough time in the day for anything
— My defining moment in the faith came in the summer of 2014, so you could say I’ve been knowingly saved for around 9 1/2 yrs now
— I use my hands a lot when I talk
— I have the attention span of a 5 year old
— my Twitter handle is @JayTibbs23, you can connect with me there
— and that’s me in a nutshell

INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION

I’ve never done a one on one livestream before, let alone one that puts me in front of thousands of people, so set your expectations accordingly; we are saving the best for last, and if all goes well its gonna be like the 4th of July round here.

There’s a TON of information to cover here and not a lot of time to cover it, and I had to leave A LOT of stuff out, so if anything here confuses you don’t hesitate to bring it up in the Q&A or reach out privately over twitter DM and ask one of us later.

This won’t include an exhaustive overview of any position. I’m going to assume most of you are already familiar with the 3 core end times views; premil, amil, and postmil. Obviously only one of these views can be the right one, and I’m going to briefly share a few key passages that drive this home, but the goal of this livestream is to distinguish two key types of believers, not to explain any of these positions in detail.

I think it’s important to stop briefly here to make a bulletproof case for the premillennial position, before we get into the meat and potatoes of the conversation. Read these passages like you would any other book, and you will see a clear order of Judgement and chaos, following by the 2nd Coming, followed by the Kingdom, and this is a literal, tangible, earthly Kingdom.
Zech 14
Matthew 24-25
Rev 19-20
Dan 9 and Dan 12
2 Thes 2

I’m also gonna share a few key passages that put Israel front and center within the premillennial framework
Luke 1:31-33
Mat 23:37-39
Acts 1:6-11
Romans 11:25-32
Jeremiah 30:5-11
Ezekiel 36-37
Hosea 3:4-6:3
Revelation 6-19

Most importantly, always lean directly on the Spirit of God for guidance and understanding (with special emphasis 1 John 2:27 and John 16:13), take everything I share with you before Him in prayer and study, and come to your own conclusions. I’m what you would call a country mile from perfect, but I do have an eye for detail and I’d love to share some of those details with you tonight.

POINT #1 — STRENGTHENING AND ACCELERATING PROPHETIC CONVERGENCE

I’m gonna focus on prophetic convergence taking place within 3 key worldviews:
Islam (al mahdi)
Israel (a messiah, the antichrist)
Christianity (mixed bag)

The state of those in the professing church:
many are asleep or indifferent (we would call those living in denial)
some are watching (some of us are living in reality)
some waiting on the rapture
some waiting on the antichrist

I won’t get into detail about the convergence of America for the sake of time, but I will say this…Satan has BIG PLANS for America.

Let’s go back to the big one for a minute…the convergence of Israel. I don’t think its a stretch to say that October was a pretty big month on the convergence scale, but how do we know that this stuff matters?

The last 3 verses of Matthew 23. That’s how…
37  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, You that kills the prophets, and stones them which are sent unto you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not! 38  Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39  For I say unto you, You shall not see me henceforth, until you shall say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.

I say that to say this: Israel is God’s prophetic timeclock. This clock has 3 components, like every other clock: an hour hand, a minute hand, and a second hand.
For nearly 1900 yrs, this clock was at a full stop.
Then May 14, 1948, Israel back in the land.
Then June 7, 1967, Jerusalem restored as capital city.
Soon the Temple w/b rebuilt and sacrifices will resume.
Once that clock becomes fully functional again, the end will come quickly, and a third of the Bible will come to pass within a 7 year window.

Now to explain this, I’ve coined a term inspired by one of my favorite hoodies of all time:
NO Israel, NO 2nd Coming
KNOW Israel, KNOW 2nd Coming

POINT #2 —THE BIBLE’S TEACHING THAT THE END TIMES WOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY SIGNS

Think about this for a second …

Deception has gotten so bad that you have to question almost every picture, video, and screenshot you see on the internet these days.

The emergence of artificial intelligence has us on the cusp of Terminator 2 coming to life before our eyes.

And as we speak, most of society is dependent upon grocery stores, the power grid, and the internet; if these go down, especially in America, you will witness a level of anarchy and chaos unlike anything we have ever seen.

So the 4 key factors I’m looking at here are:
chaos, deception, apostasy, and an unbelieving Israel back in the Land.

That’s the reality!

POINT #3 —THE BIBLE’S TEACHING THAT THE LAST DAYS WOULD SEE AN INCREASE IN BIBLICAL AND PROPHETIC UNDERSTANDING

Include Isaac Newton’s prognostication: “About the times of the End, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the prophecies, and insist upon their literal interpretation, in the midst of much clamor and opposition.”

Daniel 12 drives this home as clear as day:
1  And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of your people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time your people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2  And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3  And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4  But you, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

69 week calculations:
Daniel 9:26
Luke 21:20-24
Daniel 9:27
Matthew 24:15-22
Rev 6-19 in hindsight (connecting the dots between Dan 9:27, 2 Thes 2, Mat 24:15-22, Rev 6-19)

Explain the story of Craig from Awaiting Christ sending me the Isaac Newton quote, then go over the thread where I actually research his writings and not only find the source for the original quote, but found some pretty wild and unmistakable references. (Bro Craig is contending for the faith on Twitter, now X, as @AwaitChrist).

Then talk about Dr. David Reagan’s video on replacement theology, and play 2 minute video that sounds like a fulfillment of Isaac Newtons prophecy.
David Reagan,  The Evil of Replacement Theology: Part 1
David Reagan, The Evil of Replacement Theology: Part 2

Then talk about the crazy revelation that makes PERFECT SENSE to Isaac Newtons quote about how after few are converted, many will be converted, and how I connected the dots between this and Rev 7 to suggest that there will be a MAJOR REVIVAL in the last days when they realize they’re living in the 70th week and those prophecies are coming to life before their eyes.

POINT #4 — BELIEVERS EITHER LIVE IN REALITY OR THEY LIVE IN DENIAL

How do we know which one applies to us? It’s very simple.

If you read the Bible like you would any other Book, plug directly into the Spirit of God for guidance, and believe the plain statements of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, you will come out the other side living in reality. If you don’t, you will find yourself living in denial. Period.

Is everything crystal clear from Genesis to Revelation?
Hardly.

But is there enough there to make sense of 3/4 it, if you leverage the Whole Counsel of God and make note of any confusing passages? Absolutely.

So here’s the dilemma for those who are currently living in denial. Either these things mean what they say, or they don’t. And if they don’t, where do you draw the line? How do you determine what anything means in the text if you apply a different standard to the 2nd Coming than you do with the 1st Coming?

At that point, what do you do with the hundreds upon hundreds of passages that stand in direct opposition to your view?

You either have to claim they’ve already been fulfilled, or they can’t mean what they actually say.

This forces them to say that most of these things already happened (which they do, mainly around AD 70), or argue that we aren’t really in the last days, which in the extreme cases some are trying to argue that we are still in the early church, which is crazy to me.

POINT #5 —SEEING SIGNS OF THE ENDTIMES ALL AROUND ISN’T FANTASY
[THE FANTASY IS IGNORING THE PROPHETIC SCRIPTURES (OR ALLEGORIZING THEM) AND PRETENDING WE AREN’T IN THE LAST DAYS]

This is where the Book of Revelation becomes a key component on both sides of this conversation, because one side would argue that most of Revelation already happened, that it was about God divorcing Israel in 70ad, while we would argue that most of Revelation is still yet future to you and me.

Focus on events surrounding the 2nd Coming, and take around 60 seconds to highlight a few details from Revelation 1 to show how easy it is to see which one is right, I call this my “easy button.”

*Stop here and give a few highlights on Book of Revelation*

The first 5 words of this Book tell you exactly what its about: “The Revelation of Jesus Christ”

Verse 2 doubles down on this: “THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST”

Verse 3 contains a set of Promises that are exclusive to this Book, for taking this Book seriously:
“Blessed is he that reads, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

Then in Verse 19 God provides the outline of the Book FOR US:
“Write the things which you hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter.”

If you have ANY DOUBTS about this, refer back to John 15:26-27, and I’m gonna read it to you real quick because its THAT IMPORTANT.
26  But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27  And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.

Now back to the other side of the argument.

There are a pair of respected leaders that have made direct quotes admitting how critically important the dating of Revelation is to their view, I won’t read them for the sake of time but if you look up Kenneth Gentry and RC Sproul they are both on record making statements about this. (Search for these two on YouTube and on the internet.)

Why is this such a big deal? Well, aside from what I just told you, if Revelation wasn’t written before AD 70, preterism goes away and every other view that requires preterism goes away with it. This includes postmillennialism, theonomy, New Apostolic Reformation (often call NAR for short), kingdom now theology and dominion theology, and any other views that are pushing to establish the kingdom before the 2nd Coming. The most popular form of this movement right now is called “Christendom 2.0,” and I’m gonna reference a couple of these guys later.

POINT #6 —RELIGIOUS DENIAL (THEONOMY, KINGDOM/DOMINION, POSTMILLENNIAL)

Living in religious denial:

I’m gonna suggest that the root cause of living in denial is due to replacement theology, because if they either think they’re Israel, or they think God is finished with the nation and has been since AD 70, they have no visibility of the prophetic timeline and as a result, they will continue to live in denial and ignore the convergence taking place all around us.

What are some of the key symptoms? I’m gonna be blunt about this.
1. If you believe the great tribulation happened in AD 70, you are living in denial.
2. If you think most of Revelation is actually history, you are living in denial.
3. If you believe satan is currently bound, you ain’t living in denial partner, you are living in delusion.
4. If you deny the plain statements of Scripture, to the point where 1/3 of the Bible doesn’t really mean what it says, you are living in some serious denial.

In fact, this is what Lee Brainard so brilliantly called “sugar coated unbelief.”

To drive home the accuracy of this statement, I recently noticed a disturbing connection between ancient Israel and many professing believers today, that I wanted to share with you.

*mention post about 1st coming and 2nd coming prophecies*
[At the time of the first coming, the Pharisees had their eyes on the second coming in power to overthrow the Romans and denied the first coming. Now the Pharisees have their eyes on the first coming and the gradual gospel spread it introduced and deny the second coming in power.]

With that being said, let’s go over some examples of this “sugar coated unbelief” in practice, where you can actually see people living in denial, and these are not random people BTW. Some of these guys are highly respected and influential leaders in the church.

8) ADDRESS SMEAR THAT DISPIES HAVE NO HOPE

This is the firework show we were talkin about at the beginning, because I’m gonna show you direct evidence of WHY so many professing believers are living in denial.

One thing I’ve noticed personally, is that these guys spend a great deal of time and energy attacking the “dispensational” worldview, focusing on what they believe are the weak points.

Common attacks:
obsession over a nonessential
rapturemania
newspaper exegesis
loser eschatology

I’m gonna reference a statement that was shared by my buddy Derek Behler over the past year from his own experiences, when he was trying to warn us about “cage stage postmillennialism.” And I’m gonna challenge you to do a little science experiment later. If you type the term “loser theology” into the twitter search engine, and then do the same thing with “newspaper exegesis”, you will see what I mean.

The most famous of these being the Darby conspiracy, that Darby came up with all this in the 1800s, a theory that’s been put to rest and debunked multiple times over, by solid Biblical scholars, including research from my big brother himself, Lee Brainard (show book), and I’ve got some of my own as well.

But I say that to say this; I view the dispensational attacks as a tactic, a scapegoat to distract from the fact that the core premillennial view is the gold standard of eschatology. Now many of us agree to disagree on the meat and potatoes of where the rapture fits into the timeline and that’s okay, but when you take a core premillennial view through the gauntlet of Scripture, and then take a postmillennial view through the gauntlet of Scripture, its not even close. You have hundreds upon hundreds of prophecies that fit like a glove with the PREmillennial view, and like a dozen or so that can be taken out of context and put together to “argue” for a POSTmillennial view, but that argument forces them to take the countless other references and either say they already happened, or place them in a category they call “apocalyptic literature.” You already know how I feel about that one. If I could make that term a cuss word, I probably would.

But I’m gonna play the devil’s advocate for a minute and put myself in their shoes. If I were a respected leader who held firmly to a postmillennial/theonomy worldview, and I’ve written books defending it, hosted conferences charging hundreds of dollars to teach it, and created entire ministries to promote it, what am I gonna do if someone goes out of THEIR way to present clear and accurate evidence from Scripture that I was wrong and I’ve deceived countless people? What do I do with that information? Do I reevaluate that position against the biblical text that I was so fully convinced of when I wrote that book, or organized that conference, or built that ministry, or am I gonna double down, bury my head in the sand, and ride that propaganda train in order to protect and preserve my own reputation and ministry? Obviously, this isn’t a one size fits all situation, but God put James 3 in the Bible for a reason, and I think there are quite a few guys out there in the postmillennial/theonomy movement that didn’t get the memo. As a result, this propaganda train grows bigger and bigger, and the dispensational worldview becomes an easier target today than it was yesterday, and its so easy to overlook this fact and shun the entire premillennial worldview as a result

With that said, I’m gonna go ahead and share a few examples of this anti-dispensational propaganda used by leaders in the postmillennial/theonomy movement. These are what I like to call “snake berries.”

To start, I’ve got a video from Doug Wilson and Toby Sumpter out of “ChristChurch” ministry in Moscow, ID. The title of this video is “ESCHATOLOGY MATTERS.” I’m gonna play the whole clip then we can talk briefly about it.
*play video until 4:24*

This is the same Doug Wilson that recently said this at a conference in a message on the next STANDARD BEARER. Check this out.
*play video until 3:36*

WHO IS THE NEXT STANDARD BEARER BRO?!
2 Thes 2:3-12 says it is THE ANTICHRIST, THATS WHO!

I’m gonna play a short clip from an interview with Joel Webbon from Right Response ministries. A PRIMER ON POSTMILLENNIALISM
*play video from 3:51 to 6:50*

Reference my pretrib rapture research in Irenaeus and Lee Brainard’s pretrib rapture research in the early fathers.

If what you just heard doesn’t bother you, you weren’t paying attention to anything he just said.

Now I’ll address a few issues with Jeff Durbin from Apologia church.

First, let’s examine his response to Macarthur’s “We Lose Down Here” sermon. Again, I need to play a few minutes of this clip so you see what we are up against here in the realm of deception and propaganda. I’ll put my two cents in on this one toward the end when we start to wrap up the livestream, because my response to his “hopeful” eschatology is based on what Scripture identifies as “hopeful.” For now, I just want you to hear the subtle gaslighting with your own ears.
*play video from 8:00 to 11:00 and from 17:00 to 17:45*

I’ll do one more reference from Durbin and then we’ll move on to a few others. Recently he was doing a series of Apologia Radio podcasts, where he was addressing the subject of Israel and Matthew 24. They posted a couple short clips from this podcast recently, and in one of them he makes the argument using Matthew 24:34 that having a faulty view of the end times makes Jesus out to be a false prophet. (“Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.”) Then he proceeds to argue that OUR VIEW is the faulty end times view based on THIS PASSAGE.

I’m gonna pull a direct quote from Durbin’s argument. Then I’m gonna show you a short clip from Durbin that shows you how he does THE SAME THING to Daniel 9, and LITERALLY attributes the work of the antichrist to Jesus Himself, pay very close attention to what he says at the end about the 70th week. Durbin on Daniel 9
*play video from 48:50 to 50:34*

If you didn’t catch that last part, I’ll repeat it for you:
“In the FINAL WEEK, we have a week of years; seven years FOR MESSIAH. I’m gonna argue it lands on HIS BAPTISM; in the MIDDLE of the week, three and a half years, JESUS PUTS AN END TO SACRIFICE AND OFFERING. How? How? THROUGH THE CROSS.” [This is attributing to Christ what Daniel (indeed God) attributes to the antichrist (indeed Satan).]

This is not some mom and pop pastor of a small community we’re talkin about here. Jeff Durbin is a highly influential figure in the mainstream church, and Apologia has an audience possibly in the millions by now, especially since James White has joined the fold. So, try to imagine the collateral damage taking place before our eyes with unsuspecting believers who view Durbin as a trusted source of truth and understanding in the eschatological realm.

Now, another common form of anti-dispensational propaganda is the claim that the concept of replacement theology is a boogeyman term invented by those who are opposed to 2000 years of church history.

In most cases, you won’t find someone actually admitting that they believe in replacement theology because I think deep down they see the magnitude of this from a Biblical perspective (i.e. replacement theology makes God out to be a liar), so you have to be able to read between the lines and look for buzzwords and patterns, or what I would call “replacement theology in practice.”

Most of these buzzword terms are used by the covenant theology crowd, which are the foundations of reformed eschatology. You can search up one of many different variations of the statement “the church is true israel” and find a gajillion references to these beliefs. Recently you have been able to witness a full blown mockery of the term “judeo christian” on social media including the following statement from Smash Baals “couldn’t it be any more clear there’s no such thing as judeo christian values” which was followed up by the comment “and notice how they always put judeo first rather than christian judeo? subtle way of subversion”, which I responded with *read my comment*

In rare cases, one of their leaders will slip up and actually make an explicit statement promoting replacement theology, and I have a couple of those to share.

Thirty years ago, Kenneth Gentry said this on record, which I believe was in response to a dispute taking place between him and Hal Lindsey/Thomas Ice. That is not unfamiliar to the same dispute we are seeing today between us and the postmillennial/theonomy guys.

*read gentry’s quote from screenshot*

Now I’m gonna refer back to a couple recent statements made directly from Joel Webbon of Right Response.

In his own words, from two separate occasions:

“The [replacement] for Israel, Old Covenant Israel, is the New Testament Church”

“Israel, under the Old Covenant, will never be replaced by any nation today. In part, this is because Israel has already been replaced by the Church”

These statements force covenant theology guys to move the goalposts when confronted with their “replacement theology is a boogeyman term” arguments by either saying they’ve never heard of these guys, or that I am misunderstanding them. I have yet to meet a single one who actually admitted to me “dang bro didn’t realize they believed in replacement theology” because essentially that would force most of them to admit they do as well.

Man, I tell you what, I’m gonna go ahead and play a short clip from Joel Webbon’s video, but I’ll warn you upfront; if you care about the truth, this is gonna trigger you a bit because this dude is a straight up deceiver and a wolf, but he is very clever and charming deceiver, so a lotta people are gonna gobble up these snake berries without flinching. Here is his video Christian Nationalism vs Zionism.
*play from 53:00 – 56:00*

In order for you to understand where I’m coming from with this, I’m gonna share a brief list of people that meet two key conditions, they are the most antisemitic of their generation and the most influential leaders of their generation, including one from our current generation and one who is yet to come. The last one on the list is the most dangerous one of them all IMO.
Pharaoh (from Exodus)
Haman (from Esther)
King Herod (from the Gospels)
Adolf Hitler (from Nazi Germany)
Andrew Torba (founder of Gab.com
The Lawless One (who we know as the antichrist)

The last one on this list is a no brainer, who will be embraced as the Jewish Messiah, betray the Jewish people, and attempt to destroy the Jewish Nation and prevent the 2nd Coming, for obvious reasons

But the most influential figure on this list at the moment is a guy named Andrew Torba, a dangerous false teacher and founder of social media platform gab.com who professes the name of King Jesus and yet makes no secret of his hatred for the Jewish people and his desire to see the Nation of Israel wiped off the map. He has made countless statements rooted in antisemitism and pure evil, but I’m gonna share one that really drives home his intentions.

“‘Christian’ Zionism is a false gospel that has subverted the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to fund and propagate the support of a political project of a people who reject and hate Him. Its poison fruit produced generations of idolatrous, apathetic, and defeatist-minded Christians that sat back and did nothing as our country, culture, and churches degenerated into wicked depravity. This theological system is from the pit of hell and we need to send it right back.”

Each of the men on this list were, are, and will be under the direct influence of Satan.

Above all, I think the single greatest argument against these attacks is the true prophetic timeline itself. You can have all the hope in the world that you are gonna usher in a golden age of man followed by a postmillennial 2nd coming which essentially becomes a red carpet welcome party, but what are you gonna do when the antichrist arrives in the single greatest deception in history, pats you on the back, and goes “hey buddy, awesome job, thank you for all your hard work, I’ll take it from here.”

COULD YOU IMAGINE investing all that time, effort, and energy into a movement, fully convinced you were performing the work of God Himself, when in all reality, you were serving satan?! I think they need to step back and strongly reflect on the fact that instead of ushering in a golden age of man, they are ushering in the great falling away, and they will need to run for the hills. If they don’t, then all these things they mock and attack are gonna hit ’em right between the eyeballs, and it won’t end well for many in this movement.
