The Names of God, Part 5
Chapter five of Ann Spangler’s Praying the Names of God is Yahweh Yireh, but I much prefer the more musical ring of the old English version of this name. Jehovah Jireh has masculine strength that evokes confidence in God Our Provider.
The One who made all things that are,
The smallest seed, the greatest star,
Whose gifts are showered from above,
Reveals in Christ His boundless love.
He didn’t spare His only Son,
But let the darkest deeds be done.
He offered His Beloved to die,
What is He likely to deny?
He saw the depth of human need
And sent the Son to intercede.
A lamb to slaughter He was led,
And for our sins His blood was shed,
Thus He became our sacrifice
And paid Himself our ransom price.
He died that sinful men might live,
What gift will He refuse to give?
Our God owns everything that is,
And all authority is His.
The folks who trust Him fear no lack,
For no good thing will He hold back.
Of all He has, He gave the best
That we might know Him and be blessed.
What other thing is there beside
That God Himself will not provide?
