Wolves (For Mike Winger)

Photo by Philipp Pilz on Unsplash

The wolf desires to catch and kill
And satisfy his lusts at will,
And when the shepherd calls him out,
The wolf pretends that he’s devout,
Ignoring, like a gutless creep,
The wounded lambs and scattered sheep.

The shepherd, on the other hand,
With careful eye, surveys the land.
He sees a wolf and sounds alarm,
And tries to save the sheep from harm.
Those wounded by the wolf’s deceits
With gentle sympathy he treats.

So how could folks confuse the two?
Who’s benefiting when they do?
It can’t be for a righteous cause
To magnify the shepherd’s flaws
When wolves in clothes like sheep lie wait
And make their way inside the gate.

When wolves are spared and sheep attacked,
Then you can set it down for fact,
The voice is from the Pharisees
Who can’t discern the Lord’s decrees.
The praise of men is what they seek,
And they themselves exploit the sheep.
