A crown of righteousness . . . unto all them that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8
We love our Lord’s appearing
Because we love the Lord.
Though He alone deserves it,
We share in His reward.
He’s full of grace and mercy,
He shed His blood and died
To purchase our salvation
And make the church His bride.
He is the resurrection,
The bright and morning star,
That hails the consummation
Of things the way they are.
The whole creation’s groaning
In bondage due to sin
And longing for the freedom
That Christ is bringing in.
He’ll come to claim possession,
And He’ll restore all things,
For He’s the rightful owner,
And He’s the king of kings.
He purchased earth’s redemption
When He redeemed mankind,
Then went back to the Father
And left the church behind.
He gave His Holy Spirit
To guide us and empower.
He’s coming back to get us
At God’s appointed hour.
The kingdom where we’re waiting
Is black as darkest night.
We long for Christ’s appearing
To shower us in light.
He’ll introduce his kingdom
And end the reign of death.
He’ll vanquish Satan’s armies
With one almighty breath.
He’s coming with a vengeance
On those who disobey,
Who won’t receive His mercy
And mock the judgment day.
But those who trust and love Him
And take the narrow path,
By God’s ordained protection,
Escape the day of wrath.
Christ promised His disciples
He’d come back face to face
And take us up to heaven
Where He’s prepared a place.
We wait with faith and patience
And bear our trials here,
For soon, in final victory,
Our Savior will appear.
We’re going out to meet Him,
We’ll hear His trumpet call.
He’ll take us from the planet
Before the judgments fall.
Our blessed hope is Jesus,
We’ll see Him with our eyes.
We’ll witness His appearing
With glory in the skies.
We’ll be with Him forever,
And all our troubles past,
The life in Christ, now hidden,
Will be revealed at last.
